Monday, March 28th, 2011A lot of you have sent your well wishes and congratulations to Robyn on the birth of little baby Valentino, and she’d like to thank all of you for the kind words! He weighed in at 8lbs on the nose, and both of them are doing very well!
Christmas and New Year closure details
Monday, December 13th, 2010It’s good news! We’re taking orders until the 23rd December 2010 and are open during the period between Christmas and New Year. For any orders received during the holiday period, we will work on them on a first come first served basis, as we don’t have a full compliment of staff, but there shouldn’t be any delays getting your orders out. The only thing to bear in mind when placing orders are the public holidays, so any of these will need to be factored into your timescales.

Stop 43
Thursday, July 8th, 2010We know many of you have been following the progress of the proposed new Digital Economy Bill and Clause 43, which would potentially allow individuals to circumnavigate the owner of an image in it’s use.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here is their latest proposal for the current Government:
It’s worth a read!
Some great images!
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010Have a peek at this gallery of images of the erupting Icelandic volcano here.
Do you think the photographers had a dust problem?? It looks worth it for some of the images though. Great stuff!
RAW Vs JPEG: Each to their own we say!
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010There has been an ongoing debate for some time on the benefits of shooting in either RAW or JPEG, so as the good people we are, we thought we’d get involved!
From our perspective, it’s a slightly different argument, as we need to post process your images from either format to obtain a desired level of consistency throughout our workflow. There are benefits to us for both, for instance, although we have fairly heavyweight PC’s, when working with 2-3000+ images in RAW format for a client, we can see a marked difference in performance in comparison to working through a shoot taken in JPEG, with a similar number of images. This affects us directly as to how long the adjustments take, as each image takes that tiny bit longer to refresh. On the other hand, JPEG’s require a touch more work to obtain the same end result.
The main area to discuss, is how we find adjustments compare between the two formats. The answer is fairly simple: There’s very little to differentiate between the two as an end result! At their extremes, we agree that you’re able to bring back an image from the brink a little more often with a file in RAW format, whereas one shot in JPEG may have to be culled, but it’s only due to the greater latitude enjoyed by RAW over JPEG.
With modern post processing software, gone are the days when the decision was far more clear cut amongst RAW aficionados, and many of you don’t actually need to rely too much on rescuing every single shot as you’re actually real photographers, who take pride in your talents and have the technical knowledge to take good images. Thus, the majority of our work is not only adjustments for exposure and contrast, something which neither format has a benefit, but also to process images in a particular style of the photographer.
The RAW format is the most pure form data that the cameras’ sensor has captured, but the JPEG that is converted in camera from the same data is not that far off. If you’re making a lot of enlargements, we’d recommend shooting in RAW as it’s a touch more difficult to create artifact free enlargements when making larger exposure adjustments and noise reductions for instance.
So how many images are you shooting?
Thursday, March 11th, 2010With the advent of digital photography, it’s not unheard of for shooters at events and weddings to take 1000’s of images. We’ve even heard of wedding photographers in pairs taking over 10,000! Now that’s an acheivement…
Here is an interesting article we’ve found that gains the opinion of 3 wedding photographers with differing approaches.
We’ve seen a number of different approaches too from all of you!
What snow!?
Friday, December 18th, 2009Well we’ve had a good 8 inches of snow last night but that doesn’t stop us from getting your images to you on time. It just means we’re a little colder than normal and it isn’t as easy to pop to the shops for lunch!
We have some lovely scenery near the office and are looking forward to getting out there at some point to take some pics. Where are those Robin’s when you need them!
